Punjab BJP on Thursday attacked Chief Minister Capt Amrinder Singh over the increasing number of farmer suicides in the State alleging that 70 farmers in the State have committed suicide during his 80 days in office.
In a statement, Punjab BJP vice-president, Harjit Singh Grewal and State party secretary, Vineet Joshi said that while Capt Amarinder Singh is busy making statements over the condition of farmers in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, he has turned a blind eye to the plight of farmers of his own State.
Joshi said, “70 farmers have committed suicide in the state since Capt. Amarinder Singh has assumed office. Family members of the suicide victims are still awaiting the compensation of Rs 10 lakhs and a job to a family member, which he had promised before coming into power. Thousands of acres of crops have been damaged due to fire, rains and hailstorm and the farmers are waiting for the compensation of Rs 20000 which you had promised”.
Grewal said, “Farmers in the state are going through the worst phase of their lives and you have failed them on all fronts.
Stop making excuses and keep your promises or BJP will be forced to take the farmers along and launch an agitation against the government”.
