As many as 650 women have registered complaints of domestic violence with Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW). The HSCW chairperson, Kamlesh Panchal on Tuesday said that out of the total complaints received, 600 have been disposed off. So far, the Commission is redressing complaints by visiting districts like Faridabad, Gurgaon, Sonipat, Panipat and Bhiwani.
While talking to the mediapersons after presiding over a meeting with police officers at Kurukshetra on Tuesday, she said that officers have been directed to take necessary steps to prevent crime against women and immediate action should be taken on the complaints filed by women.
“Senior officers of every district have been directed to ensure safety of women. If officer concerned at district level do not pay proper attention to complaint of any woman, in that case, she can directly contact the Commission for Women for redressal of her complaint,” she added.
She said that State Government has adopted a zero tolerance policy towards harassment of women. Under this, anyone indulging in harassment of women would not be spared. There is also a need to change the mindset of the people towards women to prevent such incidences. Apart from enacting strict laws to ensure lifetime imprisonment in such cases, the state government has also started a number of schemes for safety of women and girls. District level meetings are being organized regularly for quick disposal of such complaints, added Panchal.
She said that Supreme Court has issued instructions to Police to install CCTV cameras at public places. This would assist in checking incidents of crime as well as help in arresting criminals. In addition, it has also been directed to deploy additional PCRs for patrolling, she added.
