The ‘Pashudhan Bima Yojana’ launched by the Haryana Government in July this year, has attracted good response in Ambala district, where as many as 6,000 animals have already been insured by their owners.
A spokesman of the Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department said that under the scheme, insurance cover for milch animals such as cows and buffaloes achieving the minimum prescribed milk yield is provided for three years for just Rs100. Similarly, low-value milch and other income-generating animals such as sheep and goats are provided insurance cover at a premium of just Rs25.
Urging the owners in the district to get their livestock insured, the spokesman said that grants of up to 50 per cent were being provided for setting up of dairies of indigenous cows. Similarly, grant of 25 per cent is provided for dairies of other breeds of cows.
Incentive of Rs10,000 is also being provided to the owners of Hariana cows yielding eight to 10 kgs of milk, Rs15,000 to the owners of cows yielding 10 to 12 kgs and Rs20,000 to owners of cows yielding more than 12 kgs.
