The committee was constituted by the State Government on July 24, 2015 to identify laws which are no longer needed or relevant and can be immediately repealed.

It was also constituted to identify laws which are not in harmony with the existing climate of economic liberalisation and need change, to identify laws which otherwise require changes or amendments and to make suggestions for their amendment, said the spokesman.

The committee was to consider in a wider perspective the suggestions for revision or amendment in laws given by Expert Groups, if any, constituted in various departments with a view to coordinating and harmonising them.

He said that apart from this, the committee was to consider references made to it by Ministries or Departments in respect of legislation having bearing on the working of more than one department and to revise the State Acts of general importance so as to simplify them and to remove any anomalies, ambiguities and inequities.

The committee interacted with many individuals and institutions for eliciting their views on the working of the State Acts. The Committee also invited the views of the general public by giving public notice. Apart from this, the Committee has also identified several other important Acts which need review.
