4 leaders quit party posts, rap Bajwa for 'imbalanced' list

Despite Punjab State party affairs in-charge Shakeel Ahmad’s assurance, more resignations flow in on Sunday. At least four senior Congress leaders not only quit party posts in protest against party chief Partap Singh Bajwa’s list but also slammed him for his “imbalanced” list.

While former Amritsar district (Urban) president Jugal Kishore Sharma put in his papers from the executive committee of the State party unit, three senior leaders from Jalandhar and former ministers — Chaudhary Jagjit Singh, Santokh Chaudhary and Amarjit Singh Samra shot off a joint letter to Bajwa announcing to withdraw from their posts in the party and requested him to relieve them of their present assignments.

Chaudhary brothers and Samra, in their letter to Bajwa, said that the present assignment of a ‘permanent invitee’ in the newly constituted executive to senior Congress leaders certainly does not commensurate with the loyal contribution, experience of decades, hard work and long standing within the Congress party.

Terming the representation to Dalit community as a complete farce, the leaders said that in fact, it is a crafty deliberation to demoralise and demean the contribution of season senior Dalit leaders of Punjab, predominantly of Doaba, besides complete absence of representation of Christian community.
