Punjab Government has, so far, given 36,097 government jobs to the state’s youth in the first 18 months of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) tenure, thus, setting a record by ensuring that nearly 2,000 youth join government service every month.
The claims were made by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday while addressing a gathering during a function to hand over the recruitment letters to 249 youth for 191 posts in Local Government Department, 25 in Animal Husbandry, 24 in Cooperation and nine in Technical Education Department.
“The youth should feel proud as they are becoming a team of the State Government which is working untiringly to carve out a new Punjab. The State Government has been conducting this recruitment drive completely on a merit basis and jobs are being given only to deserving and needy candidates. Neither any recommendation nor any other tantrum, except merit, is working in this recruitment drive,” said the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister said that the State Government has hitherto provided more than 36,097 jobs to the youth in various government departments, and “it is a record as none of the previous governments have given so many jobs to the youth, especially in the initial months of its tenure”.
Mann reiterated that merit and transparency have been the twin pillars based on which jobs have been given to the youth across the State.
“The trend of moving abroad developed in the state due to the poor performance of the previous ‘Captains’ of the State. These leaders never bothered to give jobs to the state’s youth owing to which the new generation preferred to migrate to other lands. However, AAP Government has checked this negative trend by ensuring reverse brain drain and creating numerous job opportunities for the youth,” he said.
