As many as 30,000 cases of power theft have been detected in Haryana during the last three months in which a penalty of Rs 97 crore has been imposed.
“The power utilities in the State have achieved a huge success by reducing the line losses by five per cent during last one year. As a result of this, the consumers paying bills regularly are getting the benefit in terms of concession in electricity bills,” claimed a spokesman of Haryana Power Utilities.
He said the campaign against power theft had proved to be successful due to the active support of people and employees and officers of the utilities. While on one hand the officers of power utilities and vigilance were conducting regular raids throughout the State, on the other hand people were also giving their cooperation in eliminating this practice by giving information about the power theft, said the spokesman.
He said the people in Haryana were quite vigilant regarding energy efficiency and giving their wholehearted cooperation in the Ujala Scheme of the Central Government.
He said people had been appealed to give immediate information to the officers of Utilities about the power theft. The name of the person giving information would be kept secret, the spokesman added.
Power utilities have also made a significant reduction in the Fuel Surcharge Adjustment (FSA) from September last. The FSA has been reduced by 37 paisa per unit from September 1, 2016, by 40-60 paisa per unit from April 1, 2017 and by 28 paisa per unit from July 1, he said.
Domestic consumers having monthly consumption of 150 upto 500 units have been given concession of about 80 paisa per unit in FSA during last nine months. From July onwards this year, they would get additional concession of 3 paisa per unit.
