No less than 30 lakh people would be covered under the Punjab Government’s new pension scheme. Besides, every single person, living under the poverty line (BPl), would be covered with a free health insurance.
State Health and Family Welfare Minister Brahm Mohindra issued instructions to the Civil Surgeons to make foolproof arrangements to implement these health schemes so that needy persons could reap full benefits from it while chairing the Civil Surgeons’ conference on Wednesday.
He said that under the National Health Protection Scheme, ‘Ayushman Diwas’ would be celebrated in the State on April 30.
On the same day, Gram Sabha Diwas would also be observed in Panchayat Ghars under the chairmanship of Panchayat Secretaries.
Mohindra directed the Civil Surgeons to make the entries in their record of such persons who are living under poverty line for the purpose of extending insurance cover to them. For the same, he asked the Civil Surgeons to take help of Gram Panchayats.
“Under this insurance cover, medical treatment worth Rs 50,000 per year to five members of a family will be provided, which may extend up to Rs 5 lakh under emergency situation,” he said.
The Minister said that the timeline of Bhagat Puran Singh Health Insurance Scheme in the state has been extended till October 31, 2018.
