In a move aimed at giving boost to e-governance in the city, the UT Administration has decided to launch 25 public services online in next four months.
The Administration in accordance with its project to provide public services in electronic form has decided to roll out the e-District project with National Informatics Centre (NIC-UT) as an implementing agency. The decision in this regard was taken in the high-level State Apex Committee, chaired by KK Sharma, Adviser to the UT Administrator.
A senior official of the UT Administration said, in the first phase, a set of twenty-five public services would go online and this phase is expected to be completed in next four months. The official said that e-Districtis, a mission mode project (MMP) under National e-Governance Plan aims at electronic delivery of high volume citizen-centric services. It would improve the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery.
The objectives of e-District MMP would be achieved through backend-computerisation and optimal utilisation of the three information infrastructure pillars of State Wide Area Network (SWAN), State Data Center (SDC) and network of Sampark Centres to deliver the services in electronic form to the citizen via internet.
The main services covered under e-District include issuance of birth certificate, death certificate, senior citizen card, new electricity connection, payment of electricity bill and payment of water bill. The official said that through e-District project, all the associated UT Departments would be provided with the desired IT infrastructure to enable the provision of electronic services to the citizens.
The electronic application forms on the internet will enable citizens to submit their applications electronically to the corresponding UT Departments where the officials would process them electronically. After the processing is complete, applicant would receive an SMS from the Department. The citizen would then download the certificate, digitally signed by the concerned authority.
“The UT Department of Information Technology is the nodal department for the implementation the MMP. The Department has already carried out the process re-engineering of around hundred public services. The computerization of public services would not only enable citizens to avail these services through internet but it would also reduce the delivery time of services significantly,” added the official.
