A 23-year-old woman has accused her in-laws of trying to kill her by forcing her to gulp phenyl. The victim is admitted in GMCH-32, where she is being treated for poisoning.
Meanwhile, a case has been lodged against her husband, Vikram Singh and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paal Singh and Sito Devi respectively. The police have already started questioning the accused party, about their involvement in this heinous crime, said SHO Charanjit Singh.
Jagdeep Kaur was taken to civil hospital Manimajra by her in-laws, where they informed the doctor that she had consumed poison. However, the doctors on duty referred her to GMCH-32 for treatment and informed the police about the incident because it was a medico-legal case.
At GMCH-32, her in-laws repeated the same cooked up story, while proper treatment was given to her by the doctors attending on her, till the police team reached the spot.
The events took a turn, when police recorded Jagdeep’s statement in the matter, in which she alleged that her in-laws forced her to consume phenyl as she failed to meet their demands of dowry. The condition of the victim is stable at the moment and the doctors attending on her said that various external injury marks were present on her body, added sources.
Ujagar Singh, the relative of the victim and also the complainant informed the police that Jagdeep and Vikram got married in November, 2013, but soon after their marriage her in-laws started harassing her and her parents for dowry.
“Jagdeep was beaten by her husband on a daily basis to make her family bow down before their demands for dowry. On March 26, 2104 when the matter became worse, when Jagdeep was badly injured after being thrashed by her husband and a case was registered in the matter,” said Ujagar Singh.
After this incident Jagdeep went back to stay with her parents, but on April 21 Vikram went there and apologised before her family for the treatment meted out to her and brought her back to his place.
However, on Sunday night, Jagdeep called her parents and told them that she was being beaten again and her in-laws are demanding dowry from her. later we came to know that our child has been poisoned and has been admitted to a government hospital, added Ujagar.
