Ailing for long, the Punjab Health Department is finally on its way to recovery with Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu promising to administer the right dosage of efficiency. Dr Sidhu, the chief parliamentary secretary of health, has all the reasons to be confident. For, Madan Mohan Mittal, the former health Minister, is finally out of the system. Dr Sidhu and Mittal were always at loggerheads. And now with Surjit Jiyani replacing Mittal as the Health Minister, Dr Sidhu is sure that the health department would soon be in the pink of health. Already, she has prescribed a number of steps. Dr Sidhu, let's hope the cures you are suggesting are not worse than the malady.

 Name game baffles panjab university

It is a common saying, what is in a nameIJ But in the City Beautiful when it is about naming a building of repute, the pressure is immense. Panjab University is having one such dilemma, as there is a building to be inaugurated and every one, who is eligible to baptise it with a name, has a choice of their own. The list ranges from people in politics to people who are distantly related to academics. There are few who have academic record too. While as the current buzz is going, Amrita Pritam, is the strongest contender to get a building named after her. Pritam was a great Punjabi poet and one of the earliest feminist of the region. Though as slippery as things are, no one ever knows what the building might be called at last because, here at time, everything is in the name, who cares if the building has enough in it or not.

PGImer becomes a makeshift picnic site

City Beautiful is visited by many people during the day because it serves as the bureaucratic capital to two States. But lately people have found a new picnic spot. This is none other than the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research. Meeting one such group gave a nice insight into the matter. The premier institute has large spacious lawns and no one questions if you use them as a siesta point, basking in the hot sun. On top of it, food is served by certain self service group for free just outside the compound, which is always an added advantage. So next time when you visit the hospital please be careful, because the person who might be snoring on one of the lawns, might just get annoyed for the disturbance caused.

 All play and little work

After a hectic year, it’s leisure time for the officials of UT Administration. The UT officials who are always too busy in attending meetings and inaugurations would take a break till the next year... Yes, you read it right. Sharing his woes of workload, this is what a UT official claims. “We have been working all the year and now only a month of 2013 is left. The season of fairs and festivals has begun in Chandigarh and it’s time for us to take a break and enjoy the ongoing festivals across the city to the hilt,” says an official. Further sharing his plans, he added, “Earlier, it was Chandigarh Carnival, now it’s ongoing Crafts Mela and later it would be Theatre Festival and New Year celebrations.”
