Sympathy for colony dwellers, cry for self

Misery guts elite of the City Beautiful have more than one reason to be sorry about the demolition of Colony No. 5. These sections were earlier full of disgust, to the umpteen squatting figures on the roads, when they passed by in their luxury cars. But now they are wailing their heart out, because some miss their maids, few their tailors and many their drivers. Sympathy is pouring out, with self as the God, because after parting with the Diwali bonus none of these elites want to dig a little deeper into their pocket, to pull out more salaries, which is being demanded by their servants, as a cost incurred while travelling to their destination from Dhanas.

The unsolved mystery of PGIMER

The largest democracy of the world is taken back when an elected member gets sick. Obviously, it’s a liability as on the person, rests many peoples hope. Few of these representatives, goes behind the bar because to err is human and errant leaders in a democracy are God. PGIMER gets to be the ultimate asylum, for these sick representatives who are behind the bars, as the city stands spectator to the politics of two States and at times ruffled by the Centre too. However, there is a mystery that hounds the people who attends to the sick behind the bar representatives at this premier institute. These people, when brought in have almost one of their legs dangling in the grave, but the very next morning, after they are admitted here, they want all the assortments and condiments; from which otherwise a sick person must refrain. The premier institute must have elixir of life in its air for fugitive ministers, but not the myriad others who come here for treatment.

Bajwa amidst friends and foes

It’s raining troubles for Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa. The Gurdaspur MP is not only facing criticism from the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal but also from within the party. Bajwa was left red-faced when the Punjab Government formed a committee to probe into all shamlat land deals in Mohali district — under which the State Congress chief has allegedly carried out murky land deals. This is not all! The real embarrassment came when his protegee Capt Amarinder Singh asked Bajwa to come out clean or face action. Well, within a year after taking over the party reigns in Punjab, Bajwa would have realised what it cost to be PPCC president!

BJP frowns at Sukhbir’s ambition

No doubt, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and SAD chief Sukhbir Badal is ambitious but his ambitions are making the BJP leadership frown. After making its alliance partner BJP to play second fiddle in Punjab, SAD is aiming high targeting to expand its base in Punjabi-dominated areas of other States, including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra. But, SAD has not realised that it’s always give and take, and to get seats in other States, it has to bestow respect to BJP too. Hopefully, Sukhbir would understand this soon, especially after BJP asked it to compromise with just four seats in Delhi Assembly polls.

Time to speak up for slums

The city Congress and BJP are attempting hard to earn brownie points prior to lok Sabha elections 2014. While UT Administration managed to accomplish an uphill task of erasing colony number 5 this week, the ruling Congress and main Opposition BJP stood strongly against the UT Administration’s demolition drive. Well versed with the vital role that slum population plays in the elections, both Congress and BJP played “saviour” for slum dwellers during the demolition drive. The BJP leaders extending their support to Colony No. 5 slum dwellers protested against the demolition drive and even give court arrest. On the other hand, Congress leaders assured the slum dwellers of providing adequate facilities at their rehabilitated colony in Dhanas.
