Shashi Kant in ‘advisory’ role
Punjab’s former Director General of Police Shashi Kant is donning a new uniform — that of an advisor to all political parties and leaders. Retired from service, but still in the habit of writing circulars and long notes, he has been sending open letters to national-level leaders, right from Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to former CM Mayawati. He has, in fact, been giving the mantra of success to all, transcending regional and political lines. Hooked to the concept of de-addiction, he has been telling them that victory in the impending parliamentary polls is just a short distance away if they propagate the anti-narcotics campaign. Mr Kant, you are already being blamed for speaking out after attaining the age of superannuation. Now, you may soon find yourself being dubbed as universal adviser. Just a few year’s back, comedian Jaspal Bhatti had made a serial out of a compulsive adviser. You may also find the cameras focussing on you and your public, or publicity, interest campaign.
Punjabi language fanatic
A Punjabi language fanatic is out on the streets of Chandigarh defacing all signages and boards in English and Hindi with black paint. He wants everything written in Punjabi as well. Though the gentleman is booked under the West Bengal Defacement of Property Act quite often, he is not deterred and promptly returns to his job after a visit to the police station. It was the turn of the PGIMER the other day when he threw black paint on the main entrance of the premier institute in the presence of security guards. But PGIMER proved to be smarter as the black paint was promptly removed the very next day.
‘My pocket is torn’
A Himachal Pradesh Cabinet Minister was chairing a meeting of Board of Director of Transport Corporation, when he was reminded that several services still were needed to start for strengthening the health of the corporation. Minister, who is known for his wit, could not contain himself from saying that ‘his pocket is torn’ specifying that department was going through tough financial conditions but the words could not stop those around from smiling at the wit.
Closeness to Raja Sahib matters
Strange are the affairs of Himachal Pradesh politics. Here no protocol matters and the only thing which matters is closeness to Raja Sahib Virbhadra Singh. Occasion was launching of Food Security Scheme by Chief Minister where sitting arrangement was such that Cabinet Ministers were seated alongwith Chief Minister in front rows while Chief Parliamentary Secretaries were made to sit in second row. As soon as Chief Minister arrived on the dais, Chairmen of Board and Corporation grabbed the seats of Cabinet Ministers to show closeness to Raja Sahib, while CPS who in order of precedence are ahead of chairmen were humbly made to sit in second row.
