Battlefield of Amritsar
The war of maxims is on with both the Congress and the BJP letting loose the verbal barrage. Both the BJP MP and rival Congress MlA are training their guns at each other in Amritsar. The war of words follows an utterance by BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu. Responding to the allegations of being out of scene and to the “missing Sidhu” posters that dotted his Amritsar parliamentary constituency, Sidhu said: “Hathi Challe Vich Bazaar, Kutte Bhaunkan Ik Hazar” (When elephant moves in the market, thousand dogs bark). On the other hand, local Congress MlA Raj Kumar Verka termed Sidhu’s statement as “insult of voters”, saying that, “Yeh Public Hai ye sab Jaanti Hai” (this is public, it knows everything). Both the leaders don’t seem to realise that words are like weapons, but constituencies are not battle stations for launching verbal personal attacks.
Anything to make way for metro
The old adage “Where there is a will, there is a way” could not be more true when looking at UT Administration’s attempts to make unfeasible metro project a reality here. The Administration seems to be going great lengths getting metro project off the ground. From persistently persuading other stakeholders to overlooking its previous proposals, UT Administration is doing it all… to take along Punjab and Haryana Governments on all issues related to metro. “It’s all about striking a deal, UT Administration wants to execute the project hence ready to overlook some issues to appease the other stakeholders,” said a senior UT official.
a rape accused in PGI
It has been a long time now watching patients who visit the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research. This one was special; a rape accused accompanied by policemen handcuffed being carried on a wheel chair. At first look it seemed that he might die because his head was drooling on one side, eyes rolling and the constant struggle he showed while breathing. The constable accompanying him said the doctor that it is asthma attack. After checkup the expert rubbished all possibility of asthma and within moment the dying convict was on foot, fit and fine. On the way out he requested a beedi from one of his relative who came to attend him at the hospital. After talking to the constable it became clear that it was no asthma attack but the fear of going to jail. The constable said, “Sir Rape accused gets special treatment from inmates.”
Yeh Dil Mange More!
MlAs of Himachal Pradesh Assembly got 60 per cent hike this monsoon session as the bill for increasing salary was passed by the House. Strangely for a few of the MlAs, some 60 per cent hike was less and they were found saying that this hike was meager looking at the expenses they have to meet. “This hike can’t eradicate the poverty of an MlA,” said a newly elected first time MlA of Congress from Kangra district. The said MlA, also personally met all the opposition MlA, requesting them to be present during the tabling of the bill and ensure that it is passed.
Raja Saheb the real king
Though Raja Saheb is just a titular king of Rampur-Bushar but for the MlAs of Congress, he is the real king. As soon as he walks into the assembly, hardly anyone from Congress misses a chance to touch his feet and take his blessing. “Touching the feet is just a regard shown to the elders as he is senior most leader of the party,” said one Congress MlA when asked about his act. Some also shared a different view saying that this touching the feet exercise also makes other believe close proximity one shares with Congress strongman. But whatever is the reason, Raja Saheb like a king loves to enjoy the kingdom styling habits.
