Two quacks, masquerading as doctors, were arrested by the police in Haryana after they were found conducting sex determination tests at Kanina in Mahendragarh district, and at Charkidadri in Bhiwani district, during raids conducted by the Health Department and Food and Drug Administration officials.

A spokesman of the Health Department said that an ultrasound machine had been sealed and FIRs had been registered against them for violating the PC and PNDT Act and the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act. The Health Department and the Food and Drug Administration jointly raided the Sanjivini Hospital located at Ambedkar Chowk in Kanina. Doctors in the hospital were caught red-handed while doing a case of sex determination.

The department put up a decoy customer who went to the quack along with a decoy patient. A sex determination test was settled to  ascertain the sex of the unborn child for Rs 7,000. The doctor said the lady carried a girl child. The team immediately nabbed the doctor while accepting the money. The currency notes were seized and the ultrasound machine was sealed by the team.

The spokesman said that in yet another case, a team comprising Health Department and Food and Drug Administration raided two private hospitals Guddi Clinic and Dhankhad Health Care at Charkidadri in Bhiwani. During the raid, the Health department team and the police found medicines, MTP instruments and records which had not been updated. FIR was registered against the quack owner of Guddi Clinic, Charki Dadri, under the MTP (Medical Termination of Pregnancy) Act and the accused has been arrested.
