These and several other decisions were taken at the first meeting of the Executive Committee of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister Manohar lal, in Gurugram on Friday.

The executive committee of GMDA also fixed water charges at Rs 9 per kilo litre.

The Chief Minister said 1,926 CCTV cameras would be installed at 358 places to strengthen the surveillance system in Gurugram city. For this, work on laying fibre network has been initiated and all these cameras would be integrated with command control centre.

Through the medium of fibre network, all kinds of smart services would be provided in the city and Gurugram would be the first city in the country to have laid such fibre network, he said.

The feed of fibre network would be sent to all Government departments, police stations, schools and institutions. It would also provide internet and WiFi facility.

Not only this, about 60,000 CCTV cameras already installed at shopping malls and other private institutions would be linked with this network and its control would be with GMDA. This will also help in traffic management, the Chief Minister added.

It was informed that on this project, about Rs 65 crore would be spent out of which Rs 25 crore would be spent by the Haryana Police Department. The first phase of this project would be completed in nine months, under which, 600-km roads of Gurugram Manesar Urban Complex Development Plan would be covered.

The video feed captured from cameras would be stored for seven days locally at the installed cameras and for 30 days at integrated command and control centre.

For laying fiber network, GMDA has divided the area under Gurugram Manesar Urban Complex Development Plan into six parts. Under the project, e-challans would be automatically issued for those who violate the traffic rules and this would also prevent crime.

Apart from this, about Rs 67 crore would be spent on water boosting station to be installed at Sector 72 in Gurugram.

The Chief Minister said boosting station with 24,000 kilo liter capacity would be set up on six-acre area to supply drinking water from sector 58 to 80.

He also approved laying of the drinking water supply pipelines in Sectors 58 to Sector 115. Under this scheme, the present drinking water supply would be re-designed. According to estimates, the demand of water for Sector 58 to 115 would be 173.80 MGD and about Rs 227 crore would be spent on it. Manohar lal asked the officials to emphasise on reducing exploitation of the ground water. “We do not want to earn profit from water but such measures should be taken so as to reduce the ground water extraction”, he said.

The rates of water and sewerage were discussed in detail at the meeting. GMDA proposed that rates in Gurugram be kept low as compared to other major cities of the country.

GMDA proposed water supply fee of Rs 9 per kilo litre which was approved by the Chief Minister. He also told them to encourage the use of treated water for irrigating the parks and for stadiums etc.

The GMDA will start billing of water and sewerage from October 1, it was informed in the meeting.
