Aam Aadmi party (AAP) led Punjab Government’s ambitious initiative — Aam Aadmi Clinics to bolster primary healthcare in the State — has achieved a significant milestone with over one crore patients receiving treatment within the past 18 months.
Sharing the information, the state Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Tuesday highlighted that in the last 18 months, over one crore individuals in Punjab have benefitted from free medical services provided by the Aam Aadmi Clinics.
“These clinics, totaling 664 in number, with 236 situated in urban areas and 428 in rural regions, offer a range of free treatments along with 80 types of medicines and 38 diagnostic tests at no cost. Moreover, these clinics are technologically advanced, ensuring seamless digital processes from registration to prescriptions,” he added.
The Minister, chairing a high-level virtual meeting, directed the Civil Surgeons, Deputy Medical Superintendents, and Senior Medical Officers to ensure the effective implementation of various healthcare schemes, including the provision of free medicines, X-ray, ultrasound, Farishtey Scheme, and the Aam Aadmi Clinics.
Highlighting the Farishtey Scheme, Dr Balbir emphasized that it aimed to provide free treatment to all victims of road accidents, regardless of their background, with individuals assisting road accident victims being honored and rewarded with Rs 2,000, without facing any questioning from authorities.
Dr Balbir also emphasized the availability of free medicines at government health facilities, directing the officials to ensure that patients do not need to purchase medicines externally. He assured that sufficient stocks of free medicines are available at all government health facilities, with additional funds allocated for procurement if required.
To further enhance healthcare facilities, Dr Balbir informed about the empanelment of private diagnostic centers to provide X-ray and Ultrasound services at nominal rates for patients visiting government health facilities lacking these amenities.
