1,347 posts of principals, 28,240 teaching staff lying vacant in Hry

There are as many as 1,347 schools running without a principal in Haryana.

Apart from this, 28,240 teaching posts are lying vacant in government-run schools across the state.

This was revealed in the latest data tabled by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development in Parliament.

Apparently, the concept of rationalization of teaching faculty in schools has failed to make an impact with 28240 teaching posts still lying vacant in schools.

According to the Government’s data, a large number of posts of teaching staff of English, Mathematics, Physics, Sanskrit and Hindi are lying vacant in the government schools.

There are a total of 112368 sanctioned posts of teachers while 84128 are working. Similarly, there are 4013 sanctioned posts of Principals with 2666 working in the schools of Haryana.

Recently, a data prepared by the state Education Department had pointed out that more than 14000 posts of lecturers (secondary or senior secondary school) are lying vacant in the state-run schools while in Master cadre, more than 9000 posts are vacant.

There are 14436 government schools including 36 Aaroshi model senior secondary schools and 24 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidhyalasyas in Haryana, the data stated.

Faced with an acute shortage of teachers in the government schools, Haryana Government had last year decided to undertake process of rationalization of distribution of teaching posts across the schools.

However, the shortage of teachers has hit hard the academic standards in the state-run schools with the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2017 pointing out poor reading and weak arithmetic skills in the students of Haryana.
