In an out-of-the-box idea towards providing accessible, safer and confidential mechanism to the fair sex to lodge their complaints, the Jalandhar District Administration decided to install “She Boxes” at prominent places across the city where they can drop their complaints.
From January, the ‘She Boxes’ would be installed at the city railway station, cantonment railway station, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Inter State Bus Terminal, District Administrative Complex and Municipal Corporation Complex. “The dedicated five teams of the Department of Social Security and Development of Women and Children and ‘One-Stop Sakhi Centre’ will be constituted which will open these boxes daily on the designated time,” said the Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma.
He said that after the collection of the complaints, the teams will contact the complainant and will act accordingly after verifying the facts.
Stressing that women empowerment was the need of the hour, Sharma said that safeguarding the dignity and honour of the women will also be accorded top priority.
He said that the basic purpose of installing the ‘She Boxes’ is just another step to provide safer and confidential mechanism besides making them feel safe and secure.
“The initiative will ensure the rights of the victim are protected and they are able to secure justice through proper assistance by the authorities,” he added.
The Deputy Commissioner further told that the District Administration was duty-bound to protect the dignity and honour of the women at all costs. “The teams will ensure timely assistance to the complainants and bringing the perpetrators to the book,” he added.
District Program Officer Amarjeet Singh Bhullar said that ‘She Box’ project will be started in the next month and it will further be expanded to sub-divisional levels of the district.
