In an initiative to create fear among criminal elements and to have a people friendly force, Haryana Police observed ‘Police Presence Day’ on November 13 across the state.

“On this day, a maximum number of police personnel were on roads and streets from 4 pm and 10 pm in view of the Diwali festival to keep a check on bad elements. An appeal was also made to the general public to share any kind of information about anti-social and criminal elements with the police,” Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Navdeep Singh Virk said on Sunday.

He said that during this special drive, maximum presence of police personnel was ensured on the streets to instill a sense of security amongst the citizens, particularly the vulnerable sections of the society.

The state police tried to win the people’s confidence through this drive. In addition, government guidelines were also shared with citizens to protect against Coronavirus. Those walking without masks were also instructed to wear masks and maintain proper distance, he added.

Police Presence Day is a new initiative by police and is being observed every month to check anti-social and bad elements by putting up nakas and foot patrolling.

Virk informed that such exercise would be conducted once a month.  First such exercise was conducted on October 17 in which 2103 foot patrol parties comprising about 15000 police officers and personnel were deployed to patrol the crowded areas and markets. With the increased police presence, as many as 6188 streets, 1612 market areas and 2679 other locations were covered for safety and security of citizens, he added.

The idea to observe Police Presence Day is the brainchild of DGP Haryana, Manoj Yadava under whose supervision Haryana Police is constantly working to curb crime and criminal activities across the state, Virk added.
