In the wake of the recent gangrape and murder of a veterinary doctor in Hyderabad, a group of youths hailing from Cuttack have volunteered to offer help to girls and women feeling unsafe while travelling alone.
Through a Facebook (FB) post, the youths have shared their contact details along with their names and locations asking girls and women to contact them in case they feel unsafe while returning to their homes alone. The message says, “Anytime you face a problem while returning to home, you can call me. I will drop you at your home safely as a brother.”
But Twin City Commissioner of Police (CP) Sudhansu Sarangi has advised social media users not to rely on the FB post that has gone viral on social media.
Through a tweet, Sarangi urged that in distress situations women and girls should dial 100 for friendly and well-trained operators to attend to them. He also sought their feedbacks to improve the services.
