‘BJP would stand against Akali Dal if Pb Govt come up with proof’

All along been boasting of its age-old ties with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab, the saffron brigade on Friday made it clear that it would stand against the Sikh party if the Congress Government would come up with enough evidence against it in the sacrilege case.

“If Punjab government has proof against the Akali Dal, then I am also ready to stand with them against Akali Dal because no party is above the country,” said Punjab BJP president Shwet Malik on Friday.

He also stressed to “punish the guilty” in sacrilege cases, irrespective of his or her position or stature. “The accused...the real culprits of the sacrilege cases should be punished strictly...whoever he is, including Sumedh Saini or from any party,” he said.

At the same time, Malik accused the Congress-led State Government of trying to vitiate the atmosphere under the garb of the Justice Ranjit Singh Commission report on sacrilege incidents only “to divert people’s attention from its failures”.

The assertions came a day after the party, in its state executive meeting, had passed a resolution accusing the Congress Government of using the Justice Ranjit Singh panel report to play with the “emotive issue” of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib to settle political scores, while deciding to take on the Government on the issue.

Malik questioned the credibility of the Commission’s report saying that Justice tanjiot Singh was accused of taking a witness’ statement under pressure and forcibly taking his sign on the same.

“I requested the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to handle his leaders who indulge in politics on the issues like terrorism, Referendum 2020,” said Malik.

The state BJP chief also lashed out at the government over the deteriorating law and order situation. “Terrorism is returning to the state. There are bomb blasts every other day and the government is sitting silently,” he said while alleging that the Congress always indulge in politics in the name of dharma or caste.

“The SHO, who registered a case against illegal mining, was harassed and insulted. Gangsters are running their business by sitting jails. Punjab government is a big failure at every level be it finances, law and order, anything,” he said.

He said that through the Congress Government is by the people “but, it is not for the people”. The Punjab Government is being run by the bureaucracy, and the Chief Minister is completely missing. He neither goes to office nor meets people, he added.

“Punjab Government always says that treasury is empty. Manmohan Singh too had given empty treasury to Narendra Modi.

Reminding Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh of his pre-poll promises, Malik said that he frequently travel in air. “Capt Amarinder make policies, but did not implement the same,” he said, adding that the Congress cannot face the people if the state today.
