British motorcycle manufacturer on Thursday launched two new ‘adventure’ motorcycles from its line-up in India. The Tiger XRx and XCx are extensions of the Tiger 800 line-up for Triumph and the motorcycles both feature the manufacturers signature 800cc three-cylinder engine that produces 95PS. Both new motorcycles will be assembled in India.
Vimal Sumbly, Managing Director, Triumph India while speaking to The Pioneer pointed out that Triumph had a two-pronged strategy of both being affordable as well as being technologically advanced. “Both these motorcycles feature revolutionary ‘ride-by-wire’ that allows for a smoother throttle response. In addition, we also have switchable anti-lock brakes and traction control as well as four different throttle mapping modes that can get the rider very involved with the motorcycle.”
The market for 500cc-plus motorcycles has expanded from around 400 units in 2009-10 to over 8500 in the first eleven moths of the current 2014-15 fiscal.
According to Sumbly, the market should cross 10,000 units in the coming two years and Triumph expects to be selling 2,500 units annually in India in the next two-three year timeframe. In order to do this, the company is adding two new dealerships in the Indian market in Indore and Jaipur later this year in addition to the ten pre-existing dealerships.
Sumbly pointed out that Triumph is also working with banks in order to make their products more affordable to the general public.
“By assembling in India we can also offer our products to consumers for less”, he added. The upcoming XR will cost Rs10.5 lakh, and the XRx costs Rs11.6 lakh with the XCx costing Rs12.7 lakh.
