In a bid to create more jobs and promote the shipping sector in the country, with the help of Shipping Ministry, leading shipping associations -- Maritime Association of Shipowners, Shipmanagers & Agents (MASSA), Maritime Union of India (MUI) and National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) -- have jointly planned a series of roadshows across the globe, primarily to interact with foreign ship owners and their representatives residing in countries like Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, UK, Norway, Greece, Japan, USA, etc.
“As ‘Make in India’ concept mooted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi inspires capabilities of Indians amongst the stakeholders across the globe, a delegation of Indian maritime stalwarts will travel all over the world over next 12 months to promote Indian seafarers amongst ship owners. We plan to hold such networking events at Indian Embassies across continents,” said MUI General Secretary Amar Singh Thakur.
However, Abdulgani Serang, NUSI General Secretary said, “A detailed marketing plan has already been submitted to the Ministry of Shipping. This entire exercise, running into millions of rupees, will be proportionately funded by leading stakeholders of the Indian maritime industry.”
Skill development has gained enormous traction with Modi’s vision to create at least 100 million new jobs for Indians across sectors by the year 2020, as 14 million people enter the workforce every year.
