As the Country goes into the Swachchhata mode prior to Gandhi Jayanti with the launching of the ‘Swachchhata Pakhwara’ on Sunday, the Northern Railway is observing “Swachchhata Hi Sewa” Pakhwara from 15th Sept-02nd Oct, 2018 with unparalleled enthusiasm and gusto. Living up to its motto of being second to none, all the NR employees rose to the call by the PM to make cleanliness a part of our daily routine.
The day started with Minister of Railways, Piyush Goyal setting the tone and the pace of the celebrations. The passengers and the staff including the Sahayaks (Coolies) were extremely happy to see him at the station. Goyal came to the Delhi Junction Railway station early in the morning and first saw the level of cleanliness at the station and in surrounding areas. As is characteristic of the dynamic Minister, Goyal watched the entire speech of the PM on giant TV screens which were put up at the station. Such is his charisma that the coolies spontaneously gathered near him to watch the PM’s speech. To the utter surprise and delight of these Sahayaks, Goyal invited them to sit next to him in the chairs put up for the visitors to watch PM’s speech.
Goyal himself read out and administered the Pledge of cleanliness to all the officials and persons standing on the railway station. He then interacted with the staff, passengers and officers explaining to them the vision of the PM on Swachchhata and explained the importance of the same and urged them to make it an integral part of their daily routine. He, along with the Vishwesh Chaube, General Manager, NR and RN Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Delhi Division and other officers went around the station premises minutely inspecting every nook and corner.
He then went out of the station area to drive home the message of cleanliness to the people living in the surrounding areas of the station. On seeing the dirt on the roads just outside the station, he nonchalantly picked up a broom, donned the gloves and started cleaning the road. Looking at his down to earth attitude, several officers and nearby people too picked up brooms and started cleaning the dirt on the road. Not to be left behind, his personal staff and officers followed their Minister without hesitation. Chaube General Manager, NR and Mahesh Kumar Member Engineering, Railway Board, were seen deeply engrossed in furthering the work being done by the Minister.
