More PSEs should get listed on stock exchanges: Praful Patel

Union Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises Minister Praful Patel on Friday batted for more PSEs getting listed on the stock exchanges.

"So to say that public sector companies are loss making entities is a misnomer and that perception needs to be corrected in due course of time," Patel said at the Global PSE Summit here.

Only 66 PSEs are in sick category out of which 43 have already been approved for revival. Out of these 43, 24 have already posted profits and 13 have already turned around.

Observing that the "valuation in the stock market of a public sector company is far, far lower than the valuation which a private sector company derives," Patel said: "It is just a perceptional outlook whereas in real terms, asset base and all over parameters of a public sector company is far more valuable than its counterpart in the private sector."

Speaking on the occasion, secretary in the Department of Public Enterprises, O P Rawat, said. "Developing economies would do well to have vibrant, autonomous and accountable state-owned enterprises,"
