The manufacturing sector needs to be strengthened to achieve 20-25 per cent growth in the cement industry over the next three decades, a senior government official said here on Wednesday.
“If the cement industry has to grow by 20-25 per cent, it is necessary for the manufacturing sector to grow by at least 14-15 per cent, while the GDP should grow by 8-9 per cent every year over the next three decades,” Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) Secretary Amitabh Kant said at a CII event here.The country also needs to create new jobs by driving urbanisation, he said.”People are shifting to cities for jobs and to cater to this growing demand, there is a need to create more cities.
