Mercedes-Benz India on Friday took the covers off their new E63S AMG sedan. The car which is based on the regular E-Class is a highly tuned version that has a four-litre bi-turbo petrol engine that produces 612 horsepower which can propel it to 100 kilometers per hour from a standing start in 3.4 seconds.

The car is, however, based on the shorter wheelbase version unlike the standard E-Class sold in India which is the long-wheelbase model.

The AMG division of Mercedes-Benz, which tunes up their cars for extra performance enjoyed huge success with over 133,000 AMG cars sold last year.

In India, it is estimated that of the 16,000 cars the company sold in 2017, 400 were AMG models which are much more expensive than the standard models.

The E63S AMG which features a host of features not available on the standard car, including four-wheel drive and a new suspension costs an eye-watering Rs 1.5 crore.

However, Roland Folger, Managing Director, Mercedes-Benz India did hold out some succor for buyers when he announced that they could choose a two-year, unlimited maintenance package that costs Rs 88,000.
