Kapil Dev Tripathi, a 1980-batch IAS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre has been appointed as the new Petroleum Secretary. He is currently Secretary in the Department of Public Enterprises, and will have a tenure of slightly over one year, an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) said.
Tripathi succeeds Saurabh Chandra, who retired on April 30. An MSc in Physics from Allahabad University, Tripathi hails from UP. At the Centre, he has been associated with the Ministries of Steel, Tourism and DPE. From May 2011, he was Secretary in the Central Vigilance Commission, first at the rank of an Additional Secretary.
