In an effort to reach out to the customers across the globe and significantly enhance its revenue, country’ s largest airline by market share Indigo has made its fares and ancillary products available to the Travelport’s customers over 180 countries.
“We are very excited to officially launch our content on the travel commerce Platform today. Travelport’s technology is providing an opportunity for us to reach new travellers at home and internationally,” IndiGo President and Whole-time Director Aditya Ghosh said.
The Travelport platform offers fully-integrated merchandising capabilities and is used extensively by travel agencies in India and across the world. State run carrier Air India, SpiceJet and Vistara are already using its services.
When asked about how much other carriers across the globe have benefited from their tie-ups with the travel commerce platform, Travelport President and CEO Gordon Wilson, said: “look at our track record. Ryan Air, EasyJet among others (and) not one of them has left. No one is here due to sufferance. They come in because they want to and stay in our system. So you have to conclude that there is value in it.”
Talking about ancillary revenue of the airine, Ghosh said: “Ancillary revenue for Indigo has been more or less static at 11-12 per cent over the years. Ancillary revenues for airlines in India are low as compared to what you see typically in airlines around the world. Here the ancillary revenues are low for a variety of factors, including the fact that in many parts of the world, low-cost airlines are allowed to charge for checking in the first bag,
