The presence of Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh in Bhopal and his taking keen interest in Madhya Pradesh affairs of late, is being considered as his preparations to assume bigger responsibility in the State. Digvijay reportedly thinks the Congress will be having a ‘real chance’ in 2018 Assembly polls and he could become the Chief Minister of the State. After the CBI probe was ordered in the infamous Vyapam case and Digvijay Singh raising the issue continuously in the courts, his supporters consider it as his victorious moment.

Now, the bandh called by the Madhya Pradesh unit of the Congress was led by Singh in Bhopal. This was surprising for the local citizens to see Singh riding a scooter and participating in the procession of Congress activists. After a long gap, Digvijay Singh is being seen so active in the State politics.

last time, he was seen actively participating in the agitation during his tenure as the PCC chief. However, in the last session of State Assembly, when Singh was not allowed entry, he had addressed media persons outside the Assembly premises. With the presence of Singh in the agitation, the whole atmosphere was charged up and most of the party leaders and activists were seen enthusiastic. Singh was also accompanied by PCC chief Arun Yadav. Surprisingly, no other senior leader remained present in Bhopal. Former Union Minister and former PCC chief Suresh Pachouri also remained absent from the city. Political observers feel the whole exercise is an indication towards the organisational polls of Congress are scheduled later this year. The polls need not be an elaborate exercise, PCC chief might be decided by the Congress Working Committee resolution headed by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi. Congress sources feel there are strong chances Digvijay Singh will head back to Bhopal as president of the State unit.
