With the Ministry of Coal having issued a Presidential Directive to Coal India ltd (CIl) on July 17 for signing fuel supply agreements (FSAs) to augment provision of dry fuel to power plants having combined capacity of 78,000 mw, the Maharatna company accordingly has signed pacts with NTPC's 16 power plants and its related joint venture partners while 11 more agreements are in the pipeline.
The move, sources said, would not only increase power generation but also fast track various power projects currently under construction.
“CIl has signed 82 FSAs of 34,793 MW capacities. These include 11 FSAs with NTPC and 5 FSAs with its joint ventures. Besides this, FSAs in 6 cases of 4,480MW capacity with NTPC and 5 cases of joint ventures of NTPC are under process of signing,” an official statement issued by the Coal Ministry on Friday said.
