Marking its presence in the projector market, Canon India launched nine new range of projector models - five of lV-series and four of XEED series - in India on Tuesday. The company aims to generate Rs100 crore revenue by 2017 by capturing 10 per cent market share of the then (2017) estimated projector market size of Rs1,000 crore.
"We will be reaching out to potential customers across all the major metros and aim to capture 10 per cent market share by 2017," said Canon India Pvt ltd President and CEO, Kazutada Kobayashi.
When asked about plans to start manufacturing in India, Canon India Director (Projection Products), Parveen Sahni told The Pioneer, "Not right now. However, we are already under the process of exploring those (manufacturing) options in multiple countries, including India."
The XEED series range of projectors come with the newly introduced proprietary lCOS (liquid Crystal on Silicon) technology, which makes the projections free of the faint grid pattern that appears over the projected image.
Equipped to offer lower cost of ownership due to longer lamp life and air filter-free design, the lV series' projectors consume 20 per cent less power. The series launched are lV-WX300, lV-X300, lV-S300, lV-WX300ST and lV-X300ST and the XEED WUX450 and the XEED WX520, XEED WUX400ST and the XEED WX450ST.
Meanwhile, after two years of slowdown in the economy, Canon Inc is aiming a 14 per cent growth in sales this year. The company, which also sells office printers, personal printers and commercial printers, would increase the number of Canon Image Square shops to 300 by December 2016 to boost sales in the DSlR camera segment in non-metro places.
The new series of projectors are ranging from Rs40,750 to Rs5,00,000, said the company on Tuesday.
