Auto industry pins hopes on Auto Expo to push sales

Auto expo will begin next week with auto industry pining high hope on the mega biennial event to excite customers by launching over 69 products on the show.

This is for the first time that auto show has been split into two. ‘Component Show’ has been retained at Indian Auto Expo, Pragati Maidan in Delhi between the 5th-9th February 2014 while the Automotive Manufacturers Show would be held at Indian Expo Mart at Greater Noida between the 7th-11th February 2014.

“There is a pent-up demand, but consumers are delaying purchases because of factors like lesser income, high interest rates and inflation. We are hoping that this Auto Expo will draw them out to trigger demand, although the revival in the automobile market is unlikely unless there is a revival of economic growth,” said SIAM President Vikram Kirloskar while talking about upcoming Auto Expo.

Auto Expo is co-organised by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA).

“There will be 70 new unveilings. Of these, 26 will be global models. Moreover, 15 global cars will be unveiled during the show,” added Kirloskar.

The ticket prices for general public have been kept the same as last time at Rs200 and Rs500, said SIAM Director General Vishnu Mathur

The Grater Noida venue will have a gross exhibition area of 60,000 sq mts, while the Pragati Maidan will have a total gross area of 5,000 sq mts.
