The Government could not have been able to achieve its desired objective in its ‘Demonetisation’ mission without the technical support from Bharat Sanchar Nigam limited (BSNl). Things moved when State Bank of India (SBI) which controls over 24 per cent market share in the banking segment of the country decided to upgrade their IT sector’s back bone from 64 Kbps to 2 MBPS which is 30 times faster than the existing one.

BSNl Director, Enterprises Business, NK Mehta said, “We had to do this up gradation of over 18,000 SBI branches spread across the country in 3-4 months and had to carry out without hampering customer services through working all night.” He said that almost 400 bank branches were upgraded simultaneously integrated into the system on a daily basis, we had a target to complete the entire project in due time. He further claimed that since up gradation was completed the SBI’s banking network have no difficulty in handling the sudden rush of customers at their counters, seems to be a boon at the present crucial times. SBI Chairperson, Arundhati Bhattacharya hailing the performance of BSNl said, “Without the support from BSNl, we could not have achieved this height.” Ridiculing critics on the working of PSU’s she said, “there are slack elements everywhere but one cannot find such dedicated workforce who doesn’t even charged overtime as they did it for the Nation.”
