JAIPUR: Harichand Jat, also known as Hari Boxer, an alleged member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has been detained in the United States by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Rajasthan Police said on Sunday (November 8). Authorities are now working to bring him back to India.
According to Rajasthan Police, the detention was secured by the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) through coordination with international agencies, including the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Interpol.
Hari Boxer (40), a resident of Chatarpura village in Rajasthan's Kotputli-Behror district was alleged of operating criminal activities in India from abroad and played an important role in supplying weapons to the Lawrence Bishnoi-Rohit Godara gang.
He is accused of being involved in extortion threats and firing incidents across several states in Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra including Mumbai and Pune, AGTF Additional Director General Dinesh MN said.
According to police, Boxer allegedly threatened wealthy businessmen through WhatsApp and Signal-based internet calls and resorted to firing at them or their family members when extortion demands were not met.
He is also wanted in connection with several shooting incidents, including the firing outside Bollywood filmmaker Rohit Shetty's residence in Mumbai. Police said he allegedly claimed responsibility for the incident through a social media post.
More than 22 cases have been registered against him in Rajasthan. These include charges related to attempted murder, extortion, violations of the Arms Act and organised crime.
Police said Boxer left India in April 2023 using his own passport to Dubai, the Dominican Republic and Guyana before entering the United States through Mexico using an illegal migration route.
A Red Corner Notice was issued against him through Interpol on November 14, 2024, following coordination with the CBI. As part of the efforts to trace him, the AGTF shared intelligence and technical information with international agencies.
Police said 9 Interpol notices were sent to the US between December 2024 and July 2026. A provisional arrest request, an updated dossier and his fingerprints were also provided to the authorities.
The detention followed coordinated efforts by the AGTF's operational, Interpol and technical teams.
