Impasse over BBSR dumping yard continues

The stalemate over the Bhuasuni dumping yard at Daruthenga on the city outskirts continued on Monday as a village meeting over the issue held in Daruthenga panchayat on Sunday yielded no result.

The faceoff between the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and local residents has been going on for more than a year. A few days ago, a Dhaba owner’s son was killed after being mowed down by a garbage-laden truck. The irate villagers stopped the garbage trucks from going to the dumping yard. The BMC has sought time from the villagers to find a way out to solve the problem, but the villagers have refused to oblige.

The vehicles are still not being allowed, resulting in the temporary dumping yard near the Sainik School overflowing. This has triggered deep resentment among local residents.

Given the present situation, all eyes are now set on the outcome of another meeting to be held in Dharuthenga.

Notably, a meeting had been held at the BMC office on August 27 to end the impasse. Mayor Sulochana Das, concerned local MLA Suresh Routray Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh, Darutengha Sarpanch Tapan Kumar Chakraborty and all Corporators attended the meeting. But the meeting ended with no positive results.
