DAVians of Chandrasekharpur here celebrated the National Sports Day on Monday amid various activities. Former Indian Hockey Team Captain and Olympian Padma Shri Dillip Tirkey joined as chief guest and encouraged the students to focus on sporting activities during studentship in order to achieve their goal smoothly.
Earlier, the chief guest, school Principal, teachers and students offered floral tributes to Major Dhyanchand on his birth anniversary. Tirkey highlighted the priceless contributions of Major Dhyanchand to Indian sports and presented an autographed hockey stick to the school after showing useful techniques of the national game.
Cyclothon and friendly football match were also organised to mark the occasion. Principal Indira Bhattacharya and Academic Supervisors felicitated the chief guest.
The day was also celebrated at the DAV Public School, Kalinga Nagar here amidst different sports competitions. A special felicitation ceremony was also held.
In a function chaired by Principal Bipin Kumar Sahoo, veteran sports coach and retired Asst. Director Sports, Odisha, Arun Kumar Das stressed on physical fitness for the day-to-day activities.
Sporting talent of the school and gold medalist of International Taekwondo Championship Master Pratyush Mohanty was felicitated. Students Sulagna Rath and Abhyarthana Samanta narrated the achievements of Major Dhyanchand.
