Brain Stormer: UP: Gearing- up for Change?

Uttar Pradesh is heading for Assembly polls next year. Speaking at the recently concluded two-day national executive of the Bharatiya Janata Party at Allahabad, both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the party president Amit Shah have vowed to come back to power in the state. Modi has unveiled a ‘seven point’ dictum for the party and workers which are: seva bhav, santulan, sanyam, samanvay, sakaratmak, samvedna and samvad. Indeed, these are unique by nature and millions of party workers need to inculcate them so that the entire nation comes out of the ‘Congress baggage’ of master-servant relationship sooner or later.

A man who quite often calls himself as ‘pradhan sewak’ not ‘pradhan mantri’ has been striking a fine chord with the mantra of ‘development and change’ and the people of UP must offer a chance to the party under Modi to bring an end to the ‘culture of nepotism’ wrought by Samjwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Congress in the past. BJP must ensure that after a long haul what the people of the state deserves to see is a virtual divorce from the illegitimate offspring’s of caste, religion and of course ‘parivarvad’.

Modi was absolutely right saying that time for sloganeering is over and it is time for action. But at the same time, the people must have patience to witness the unfolding of the grand development narrative translating into action. The national executive of the party is sending strong signal how it is striving hard to capture the most politically crucial and sensitive state of the country. But on the backdrop of all these, it would be a smart political move for the party to humbly submit to the people the huge unfinished work of the Union Government. The PM’s urge to end the ‘contract of loot between the SP and the BSP’ needs timely action, first being sustaining another three successive years in government absolutely ‘corruption free’.

Also the party must ensure that the speculation around the post of the ‘Chief Minister’ should be settled amicably sensing a deeply divided society and polity of the state on the lines of caste and religion. It is hoped that Amit Shah, best known for making political calculations, would do justice to the issue. Therefore, Modi’s action-packed agenda may well be backed by grass root level work round the corner first to focus on the achievements of the government at the centre, then to unveil the road ahead and the obstructions created by the Congress-led opposition in Parliament and finally, exposing the current ‘goonda raj’ in the state. These all combined may lead to an end of the lawlessness and misrule of the SP in UP.
