The recent suspension of the ban on the ‘Burkini’ by the highest administrative court in France which was imposed by nearly 30 towns across the country is hailed as a big victory of the liberal forces by many. Burkini is a full-body swimwear generally used by Muslim women in beaches. Some others see it as a victory for common sense which will help to ease out the gripping in the minds of the Muslims across France. Thus the ban is considered unfair and an attempt to target the Muslims in the country who are already facing the wrath of the rightists around Europe. However the Mayors of these towns had earlier argued that burkinis pose a threat to public order after a number of deadly terror attacks in public places in the past. The Council of State, the highest court stated that there was no evidence that such threats still exists, so there is no need to have the bans on burkini.
Meanwhile the former French President Nicolas Sarkozy who is again planning to come back as a presidential nominee from his conservative party is favouring a must ban on burkinis in the country. It’s a political propaganda for Sarkozy who wanted him to be noticed after a long break from active politics. Beyond this, should there be a ban on burkini in FranceIJ Is it done under constant pressure from the ultra-nationalistsIJ Is it a symbol of growing impatience of the Europeans against migrants, particularly the Muslims in FranceIJ It seems a ban on burkini will not solely help fighting the menace of terrorism. Of course there has been a pressure from the rightists who are increasingly gaining their grounds among the common people as a result of massive migration from war-torn countries of the Middle East. Many a time, a sign of fast restlessness with the migrants, especially with the Muslims are seen in France and in many other European nations. But with the escalation of jihadi terror against the common people, the Muslims are facing the wrath of the ultra-nationalists and now slowly from the ordinary citizens for sure. The mindless violence unleashed by the Islamic State against the westerners has added fuel to the fire. Hence, the urge for a ban on burkini needs to be seen in this light as there has been a rise of Islamophobia around the world at the moment. However more integration of the community will help isolating the jihadi elements not only in France but everywhere in the world.
