Brain Stormer: Abdullah's and the Bungalow
Published on:

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday gave some relief to the estranged wife of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and her two sons from being evicted from their government residence at ‘ 7 Akbar Road, New Delhi’ till July 28. The order came on a petition moved by Ms. Payal Abdullah and her two sons, Zamir and Zahir, from her marriage with Omar, seeking protection from illegal occupation of the posh residence, which they have been occupying since 1999.

In fact, all it began when the estate officer of the J&K Government issued a letter asking her to vacate the premises in November 2015. Ironically, without realising the security threat to his two sons, Omar informed the Estate Officer that since he is no longer staying in the bungalow, the Government is free to take the necessary steps.

It is felt across large sections of the people that this country is really tired of the status, movement and the privileges enjoyed by the VVIPs. And Ms. Abdullah is one among them who is appealing to the CM of J&K as well as the Prime Minister just to retain the residence, citing major security threat to her sons. Besides quoting the status of Omar, even her legal counsel brought the reference of late Sheikh Abdullah, who had been the subject of numerous security threats from the terrorists in the State, for ensuring tight security to them. Currently, she and her sons enjoy Z-security protectee of the Government of India.

Ms. Abdullah stated that her sons cannot stay in J & K due the law and order situation of the state. It must be brought to the notice of the people that currently ninety four security personnel are deputed for the safety of three people. It is very strange that a former CM’s family is not secured in J&K, then what will be the condition of the ordinary peopleIJ But surprisingly, Omar has been staying quite safely so far in the state. It seems that Omar’s wife always wanted to stay in the city’s life style and never ever cared that her husband was the CM of a state which has been in the garb of militancy for decades now. The way she was citing security threats somehow spread the message that as if no one’s life is safe in J&K. How long the Government will spend money for providing extraordinary security to the VVIP’sIJ There should be a review of VVIP security in this country. After all, these are all tax payer’s hard owned money only!
