Metro-reads are not really literature, at least not in the traditional, canonical sense, but then that serves as a double edged sword. By virtue of being a metro-read, the book both appeals and repels two different sets of readers simultaneously. A Thing Called love by Tripu Dhar, narrates the tale of two young loves — Nishtha and Niladri — who meet at the Jawharlal Nehru University campus and falls in love at the very first sight. A few bumps along the road later, the story shifts from romance to a more realistic portrayal of today’s relationships. The romantic but confused liaison gradually shifts to being a more realistic portrayal, more at par with its setting of 1997, which was distanced from the hustle and bustle of today’s advanced technological, gadget-freak, fast-food lifestyles.
