Zero waste management plan to be implemented in 40 new wards

Published on:

To initiate detailed waste management plan in the 40 new wards, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has sent a proposal to the State administration.

The plan will be implemented in the new wards from the month of October this year and will include the management of waste segregation at source as well.

Dehradun municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said, “In the older 60 wards, the door to door collection and proper waste management plan is already being executed.

For the rest 40 wards, it is our tentative plan to start the tender procedure for zero waste management in the month of September and it will be implemented from October. This will be done in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode and will include road sweeping, drain cleaning and waste segregation plus composting.” Highlighting the source segregation part he said, “As of now all waste goes to Sheeshambada plant and there it is being composted.

However, under the new plan that will be implemented in 40 wards we will be focusing on the segregation of waste into wet, dry and chemical waste.”

It is pertinent to mention here that MCD has asked a third party to take samples of waste from different areas and check the chemical percentage they contain.  According to the sources, the three areas from where samples have been taken include Kargi Chowk, Bhandaribagh and Sheeshambada plant. The reports are to be submitted in a day or two.
