Excise Department employees staged protest in front of the department office here on Saturday following an attack on two excise constables in Kendrapada district on Friday while trying to stop an illegal liquor-loaded vehicle, which was seized later.
The stir was later called off after the district administration’s interference. Six unidentified youths were carrying the illegal India Made Foreign liquor (IMFl) in a Tata Ace vehicle in Karilopatna under Marsaghai block in the evening. Being informed, the two excise constables Jagannath Betra and Debakanta Acharya chased the vehicle when the youths beat the duo black and blue.
Other excise officials rushed to the spot, following which the miscreants fled away leaving the vehicle behind. The owner of the vehicle was yet to be identified, said Excise Inspector laxmikanta Mahapatra.
