A youth was arrested by the Commissionerate police on Saturday for trying to frame his father in a false case by keeping a gun in latter’s vehicle in the Balianta area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar,
The accused Biswajit Das was angry with his father for not providing financial support.
The Balianta police arrested Biswajit and his friend Abhirna Mohaptra in connection with the case and seized a 7.6 mm mouser from the vehicle during the search.
“Biswajit came to Balianta police station yesterday and alleged his father is involved in several criminal activities and has a gun in his possession. Acting on his tipoff, a team of STF and Balianta police raided his house and the gun was seized from the vehicle,” city DCP Prateek Singh said.
“During questioning, the suspect Surendra Das informed his son had taken the vehicle in the afternoon. When we interrogated his son, he could not give satisfactory answers and later he confessed to the crime,” Singh said.
A case has been registered at the Balianta police station and further investigation into the matter was on to ascertain from where he procured the gun, he added.
