A mentally challenged youth went on rampage in the Khamar village under the Chhendipada police station in Angul district on Thursday and allegedly set his own house on fire and attempting suicide.
The youth has been identified as Khukun Behera of the village.According to reports, Khukun set his house afire at around 8.30 am and started running towards Sarapal village. On the way, he allegedly slit his throat and stomach with sharp weapon in an attempt to kill self.Later, Behera, who was found in a pool of blood , was rushed to the Chhendipada Community Health Centre in a critical condition.
Source said that the youth’s two-room house was completely gutted in the fire even though Fire Brigade personnel rushed to the spot and tried to douse the flames.
