In a shocking incident, a Plus Two student allegedly slit the throat of a five-year-old boy here at the Durgamandap slum in the Satyangar area under the Kharvela Nagar police station.
The boy was rescued in a critical condition and was initially rushed to the Capital Hospital. As his condition deteriorated he was shifted to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics (Sishu Bhawan), Cuttack.
After committing the crime accused Akash fled the spot.
Sources said Akash slit the throat of the minor baby under the influence of alcohol. Meanwhile, it was revealed that a case was also pending against him at the Kharvela Nagar police station.
However, the reason behind the crime is yet to be ascertained.
Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said the accused and the victim family were neighbourers and knew each other. “We have to nab Akash and also to ascertain the reason behind the crime. We are investigating his criminal antecedents,” said Bhoi.
