A 21-year-old youth was arrested on Monday for impregnating a minor girl on the pretext of marrying her at Nuasahi in the G Udaygiri area of Kandhamal district.
The G Udaygiri police arrested the youth identified as Alfans Nayak alias Riku after registering a case under Sections 376 (2) and 376 (3) of the IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO Act against him.
Sources said the accused was in love relationship with the girl of the same locality and had been maintaining physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage. When the girl became pregnant, Riku started avoiding her. The girl narrated her plight to her family members, who talked with the youth’s family for a solution. When the meeting held over the issue was not conclusive, the girl’s family lodged a complaint at the G Udaygiri police station.
The police registered a case and sent the girl to the District Headquarters Hospital at Phulbani for a medical examination. Further investigation is on into the incident, sources added.
