Faulty surgery conducted by the doctor of a Bhubaneswar-based private hospital has complicated the woes of a youth suffering pain in a leg due to some problem in spine. Now the poverty-stricken youth needs Rs 2 lakh for another operation.

Deepak Jena, son of Satrughan Jena of Kacheripada village under the Kendrapada Sadar police limits, is the victim. When he developed pain in leg, he was treated first at the Kendrapada District Headquarters Hospital and then at the SCB Medical College Hospital at Cuttack.

The doctor had told him that due to some nerve problem in spine, he was suffering pain on his leg and advised him to go for a surgery on his spine. Deepak's father who is a farmer arranged money with great difficulty by selling away his land and gold ornaments and admitted him at the Care Hospital, anticipating better treatment.

But to his ill-luck, he could hardly get any relief as the operation was faulty. “I fail to sit on floor or walk as my leg and spine are paining a lot. I have to sit on a chair or have to lay on bed  due to faulty surgery of the neurosurgeon of Care Hospitals. My parents took me to another Bhubaneswar-based neurosurgeon who informed that the surgery was faulty.

Now I need another surgery and it would cost around Rs 2 lakh," said Deepak, adding, “When my father asked the neurosurgeon of Care Hospital as to why he made such a faulty surgery, the doctor misbehaved with my father." The family members, meanwhile, have urged district Collector and Chief Minister to take steps for providing free surgery of Deepak.
