A youth was killed and nearly 10 other persons were injured and vehicles were set ablaze in two different group clashes in the Pipili and Delang areas in Puri district on Friday and Saturday during Ganesh idol immersions.
lipuna Parida at Sunamuhin village near Pipili was killed on Saturday during Ganesh idol immersion under the Pipili police limits as two groups clashed among themselves.
Meanwhile, police rushed to the spot to prevent any further untoward incident.
Earlier on Friday, around 10 persons were injured in a group clash at Nimabasant village in Puri. The incident occurred during Ganesh idol immersion ceremony when two rival groups clashed. A police vehicle and two motorbikes were torched during the clash. Moreover, another police vehicle was also ransacked.
As news broke about the clash, Pipili SDPO Jayant Mohapatra has rushed to the spot. A platoon of police men have been deployed at the spot.
Trouble started over blaring of loudspeakers during the immersion procession, the SDPO said.
